Abstract
Darmasiswa is a scholarship program offered to all students from foreign countries who have diplomatic relations with Indonesia to study arts, culture and Indonesian language. The main objective of this program is to promote and increase interest in Indonesian culture and language. The purpose of this study was to find out how the adaptation process and efforts to overcome cultural barriers on Darmasiswa who conducted a study in the city of Solo in 2019. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study. Data collection techniques used are in-depth interviews and observation. The subject of this research is dharmasiswa who took part in a study in the city of Solo in 2019 which consisted of 4 informants. The informant selection technique used was purposive sampling. The data analysis technique used is a qualitative data analysis technique with an inductive approach. The validity test of the data used is source triangulation. The results of this study indicate that dharmasiswa feel disappointed because the city of Solo does not meet their expectations then a phase appears where dharmasiswa begins to feel difficult about the culture of the city of Solo which is required to adapt to make a sense of comfort while living in the city.
