Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the accuracy of the Instagram application in translating text from Indonesian to English in the caption of the Instagram International Office, University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta. This qualitative descriptive research data is in the form of words, phrases, and sentences on the Instagram caption of the UMS International Affairs and Cooperation Bureau or those who have an official UMS International Office Instagram account. The data collection method used by researchers in this study is library research, where the primary data sources that match the subject formulation and research objectives are collected and selected. The main data in this survey are the words, phrases and sentences contained in Instagram captions. The data validation method used in this study is the triangulation method. On the other hand, the data analysis method in this study uses the qualitative analysis method. The results of this study found that 1) from 33 research data found, it showed that the Indonesian-English caption translation in the Instagram International Office Social Media of the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta had a good level of accuracy. This is evidenced by the translation results that are accurately translated into the target language, there is no omission of important meanings. 2) Based on the acceptability, it shows that the Indonesian-English caption translation on the Instagram International Office Social Media of the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta has a good level of Acceptability. This is indicated by the natural translation results and the grammatical form is known by the target readers. 3) Based on legibility, it is known that the Indonesian-English caption translation on Instagram Social Media has a good readability level. This is indicated by the translation results that are easy to understand.
