Abstract
Low birth Weight (LBW) and non-exclusive breastfeeding could cause stunting on toddlers. Infants with LBW were at risk of slower growth and more susceptible to infectious diseases. Exclusive breastfeeding was beneficial in protecting infants from digestive tract infections that cause malnutrition. Prevalence of stunting in Mojotengah Village is 34,2%, higher than cut-off which is <20%. This study aimed to determine the correlation between LBW and exclusive breastfeeding with stunting incident on toddlers aged 12-59 months in Mojotengah Village. Type of the study was observational using case control design. Population were toddlers aged 12-59 months and samples were 39 toddlers for case group and 39 toddlers for control group. Samples were chosen by simple random sampling methods. Birth weight’s data were obtained from KIA book and toddler’s cohort book, exclusive breastfeeding’s data were obtained through interviews using a questionnaire, and toodler’s length/height data were obtained through antropometric measurement. Correlation test was carried out by Chi Square and Fisher Exact Tests. The results of this study indicated that 10,3% stunting toddlers had low birth weight, while 5,1% non-stunting toddlers had low birth weight. There are 23,1% stunting toddlers who received exclusive breastfeeding, while 17,9% non-stunting toddlers received exclusive breastfeeding. There was no correlation between low birth weight with stunting incident, p value=0,675. There was no correlation between exclusive breastfeeding with stunting incident, p value=0,238. In conclusion, there were no correlation between low birth weight and exclusive breastfeeding on toddlers aged 12-59 months in Mojotengah Village, Reban District, Batang Regency.
