Abstract
Indonesia at the moment fake clothing products are increasingly being traded. Indonesian people prefer to buy cheap fake clothing products to support their fashion style. The existence of counterfeit clothing products will of course have a negative impact in the form of losses for the community and the original product producers. This study aims to find out how the form of legal protection against infringement of rights to well-known brands of clothing products and what factors are the basis of Indonesian people choosing to buy counterfeit clothing products and what efforts can be made to overcome the increasing trade in counterfeit clothing products. from Law Number 20 of 2016 concerning Marks and Geographical Indications. The approach method used in this study is a normative-empirical approach. The data sources are primary data and secondary data. The method used in analyzing the research data is descriptive qualitative. The results of the study show that public legal awareness of counterfeit clothing products is low and the law on brands has actually been going well but its implementation is still not so good.
