Abstract

Grain separation is a post-harvest process that is carried out to separate the filled grain and also empty grain, so that the grain that is processed next has good quality and quality. The manual separation process requires a lot of energy, a lot of time and is also prone to losses, the use of an artificial separator is the solution to this problem. The purpose of this tool is to help farmers in doing the separation so that time and results get more efficient. This grain separation technology becomes a prototype that wants to be developed and applied directly to benefit the community. The feature of this grain separator is that it uses solar panel input and uses Arduino control. This tool utilizes solar heat which will be converted into electrical energy and stored in the battery. The main control of this tool is using Arduino uno, Arduino can adjust the speed of the BLDC motor and can display speed of the motor, so that it can determine the required speed. The process of testing this tool uses a predetermined grain sample which is then inserted into the feed channel (HOOPER) and separated in a separator room, the separation process uses wind media generated from a BLDC motor speed of 2000 RPM - 5000 RPM, which is given a propeller, unhulled grain. The empty grain will come out through the sewer and the unhulled grain will go through the storage channel. In the experiments carried out, the prototype made was good, approaching the desired target, namely being able to separate 1 kg of grain samples, with a ratio of 600 grams of filled grain and 400 grams of empty grain. In experiments with a speed of 5000 RPM, the prototype was able to separate 662 grams of unhulled rice and 338 grams of empty grain, with a separation percentage of 66.2% filled grain and 33.8% empty grain.
