Abstract

Klaten regency is a disaster prone area because of its geographical location between the basin of Mount Lawu and Mount Merapi. Natural disasters that have hit Klaten include earthquakes, volcanic ash rains, floods, landslides, hurricanes, and other disasters such as fallen trees, collapsed houses, cracked roads, talud amblas, and fires. The purpose of this study is to identify potential natural disasters in Klaten Regency and provide proposals for effective disaster mitigation strategies for the period 2021 to 2025. The method used is the risk matrix used to determine the level of risk then continued using HOR Phase 2 to select several mitigation strategies that are considered effective to reduce the magnitude of the impact caused by the risk agent. The results of this study obtained 6 risks of natural disasters, where floods are disasters with a high level of risk. Mitigation strategies based on HOR Phase 2 are to green or reforest and select slash, socialize and educate about disaster procedures, cooperate with other communities and institutions, create family emergency plans, form villages, develop natural disaster monitoring and warning systems, expand water catchment areas, carry out clean activities of rivers, make tandon or rainwater reservoirs.
