Abstract

This study aims to describe the wages of farm laborers with the bawon system, the advantages and disadvantages of the bawon system, and the reason why farmers apply the Bawon wage system in Jatiroyo Village, Jatipuro Karanganyar. This type of research is qualitative. The research subjects are farmers and farm laborers. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and documentation. Data validity using source triangulation. Data analysis techniques by means of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the wages of farm laborers using the bawon system, bawon is a form of wages in the form of harvests given by farmers to farm workers who have worked on paddy fields from planting to harvesting. The provision of wages is not open and without agreement, because all apply based on customs from ancient times. The advantages of the bawon system are that it is easier and can establish good relations between farmers and farm workers, while the weakness is that farm workers are threatened with receiving yesterday's harvest wages or being postponed until the next harvest. The reason why bawon wages are still used is because they can help meet daily staples, they still think that bawon is more valuable than money, and bawon wages can make the relationship between farmers and farm workers closer. For further research, it is better to examine the remuneration of all types of work carried out by farm laborers, not only when planting and harvesting rice but also when plowing the fields and caring for rice. This will show the difference between wages paid in cash and wages in the bawon system.
