Abstract
Since 2017 Character Education Development has been of special interest for a long time. Especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, students lost teachers as role models for positive behavior. However, character education must be delivered to build a good generation of the nation. This study aims to reveal the effectiveness of the application of the Character Education Model through Short Stories. This model was designed by Susiati, et al (2021). To answer the concerns of parents and educators regarding Character Education during the pandemic. This research is a case study that focuses on character education for children during the pandemic. This research was conducted at SMPN 21 Surakarta with 31 students and 26 parents/guardians as participants. Characters that were expected to be developed in students in this study were based on Character Education formulated by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Indonesia, namely: (1) Religiosity; (2) Nationalism; (3) Integrity; (4) Independent; (5) Mutual Cooperation. These behaviour were broken down into 47 positive characters as an illustration of the five main characters. This study examines the implementation of the Model Building Positive Character Through Short Stories in a small scope. This study also involved English teachers, homeroom teachers and parents. From the affirmations given by parents as guardians and educators of students at home, this model had succeeded in building positive students' characters through habituation in students' daily lives.
