Abstract

This research aims to describe the business management of Batik Merak Manis as well as the obstacles and solutions in business management of Batik Merak Manis in Kampung Batik Laweyan Surakarta. This study uses a qualitative method with an ethnographic design. The data used by the researcher comes from the managers and employees of Batik Merak Manis. Data collection techniques were obtained using interviews and observation. The data analysis technique uses data reduction, data presentation, and verification. The data validity technique used is source triangulation. The results of this study indicate that: (1) The management of the batik business has several aspects, namely planning, organizing, directing and monitoring, evaluating employee performance, spending, production mechanisms, production targets, product development, and product marketing. (2) Existing obstacles are a) unstable raw material prices b) Lack of employee discipline. The solutions used by managers to overcome obstacles are a) Procuring raw materials and reducing product profits b) Approaching employees, giving understanding that the importance of remote permits and making regulations for employees.
