Abstract
The prevalence of anemia in the world in adolescents is 29%. Adolescent girls are one of the groups that are classified as prone to anemia. One of the causes adolescent girls are at risk for anemia is due to having less knowledge about anemia which will affect poor habits in choosing food and a poor dietary habits that will make the intake of nutrient less. This study aimed to determine the correlation between knowledge about anemia and dietary habits with suspected anemia in adolescent girls. This study used an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted at a Junior High School in Sukoharjo District which was selected by multistage sampling and obtained a sample that met the inclusion criteria of 110 adolescent girl. The data of knowledge about anemia were obtained from filling out a questionnaire knowledge about anemia of 27 questions, data of dietary habits were obtained using a 24-hour recall method, and data were obtained from filling out a questionnaire early detection of signs of anemia. Data were analyzed using Chi-Square statistical test to determine whether there was a relationship. The results of this study showed the knowledge about anemia in the less category was 57,3%, the dietary habits in the bad category was 74,5%, and the suspected anemia was 34,5%. Sample with a poor knowledge with a suspected anemia was 42,9% and sample with a poor dietary habits with a suspected anemia was 40,2%. There was a correlation between knowledge about anemia with suspected anemia (p=0,034), good knowledge is a protective factor for suspected anemia (RP 0,547, CI 0,303-0,986) and there was a correlation between of dietary habits with suspected anemia (p=0,031), a good dietary habits is a protective factor for suspected anemia (RP 0,444, CI: 0,192-1,025).
