Abstract
Temanggung Regency is one of the areas in Indonesia which has a good quality of tobacco. Tobacco plant contributes at least 70% from the income of local farmers. On the national scale, tobacco contributes Rp. 103,6 trillion to the country’s foreign exchange in 2013. The development of the agricultural sector, especially tobacco, could be supported by accurate information on the number of harvests. The study aimed to estimate tobacco production using Image Sentinel-2 with the vegetation index approach and determine the distribution The method of this study was a maximum likelihood classification used to map tobacco plants and model the estimated production of tobacco plants using NDVI vegetation index transformation. The distribution of the production of tobacco plants from the physical aspect of altitude was carried out using the overlay method of production modeling with a map of the height of Temanggung regency. The field observation was made to obtain the data on tobacco production by using the interview method. The result of the study shows that the accuracy of Sentinel 2A’s image in mapping tobacco cover was 81,15%. The estimation of tobacco production is using NDVI vegetation index transformation has an accuracy of 78,90% with the NDVI correlation value, while the output in the field is reaching 0,711. The distribution of the production of tobacco can be seen from the aspect of altitude in Temanggung Regency. The productivity of tobacco in 900 – 1100 masl places tends to be bigger witch is 1,59 ton/ha.
