Abstract

Social media is used by the community as a medium to share their expression by forming self-concepts which are shared to social media such as Instagram. A content creator or Instagram celebrity is someone who actively distributes his or her works in the form of a content uploaded on Instagram. However, in the use of social media, there is a phenomenon experienced by them, namely the phenomenon of cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is bullying that is done by utilizing digital technology on social media. Cyberbullying behavior aims to harass, humiliate, degrade, and harm other social media users. This will affect the self-concept of the victim. The purpose of this study is to determine the self-concept possessed by victims of cyberbullying in Surakarta, which is a content creator, using George Hebert Mead's theory of symbolic interactionalism. This research is a descriptive study using a qualitative approach. Data collection in this study was carried out by interviews which questions had been prepared previously. The informant in this study is an Instagram celebrity or content creator in Surakarta, which has followers of more than 10 000 Instagram users. The results showed that the I side of the informant is shown through the emotional findings that happened to the victim in their daily lives, such as feeling annoyed and making a content. Meanwhile, the Me side of the informant is shown by emotional processing which is organized in an organized manner based on rational cause and effect. In addition, this study also found the role of generalized other which is used as a support system by the informant in dealing with the bullying he or she received.
