Abstract
Due to the high impact of Covid-19 in Indonesia, the habit of philanthropy can be a means of caring for others, especially for people affected by the pandemic. Philanthropy is defined as love for fellow human beings which is manifested by providing assistance to the community or the public for those in need. The purpose of this study is to understand philanthropic behavior among students during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. This research question is about how students participate in doing philanthropy and the reasons students do philanthropy during the Covid-19 pandemic. The method of collecting this data is through an open questionnaire using a google form. Respondents in this study were active students of the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta, a total of 106 respondents. The results in this study are that student participation is in the form of sharing food and basic necessities with a percentage of 31% given by students directly without intermediary distribution media. dominant. In addition, other forms of philanthropy in this study are in the form of charity by 17%, helping others by 15%, fundraising by 14%, infaq by 13%, zakat by 6% and distributing masks 4%. Meanwhile, there are factors that influence this philanthropic activity, namely the largest factor is empathy with a percentage of 88%. In addition, the philanthropic factors contained in this study are economics with a percentage of 6% and religion by 5%.
