Abstract
This study aims to describe the ability to manage finances in part-time students at the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta. This research is a qualitative research with ethnographic design. Data collection methods used are observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. The validity of the data in this study was tested through triangulation. The stages of data analysis techniques include determining informants, interviewing informants, making ethnographic notes, asking descriptive questions, analyzing interviews, creating domains, asking structural questions, making taxonomies, asking contrasting questions, componential analysis, finding cultural themes, and writing ethnography. The results showed that there was a relationship between the role of family, technology and personal experience on the basic financial knowledge of part-time working students. In addition, there is a relationship between financial records and the ability to manage the finances of part-time students, which are arranged based on the time period, priority scale and recording media used. As for future financial planning, the student does planning by dividing it into three parts based on the determination of the source of funds based on the results of the evaluation of expenditures, income earned and needs, risk management, namely having a reserve of funds for unexpected events and future financial goals where they have savings and insurance.
