Abstract

This study aims to provide a description, find out the obstacles, and efforts to overcome the obstacles in internalizing religious characters in intellectual disability children at SLB Anugerah Colomadu, Karanganyar Regency. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The subjects in this study were the principal, teachers of intellectual disability children and the administrators of the foundation at SLB Anugerah Colomadu, Karanganyar Regency. The data collection technique in this research is using interview, observation and documentation methods. Data validity uses two kinds of triangulation, namely techniques and data sources. Data analysis in research using an interactive model. Character indicators in religion used in this study are: (1) greeting, (2) praying before and before studying or doing other work, (3) performing worship, (4) acting honestly, (5) polite (6) celebrate religious holidays, (7) have facilities for worship, and (8) live in harmony with followers of other religions. The results of this study indicate that SLB Anugerah Colomadu Karanganyar Regency can internalize the religious character of intellectual disability children by habituation, guidance, exemplary and education. Barriers to internalizing the religious character of intellectual disability children at the Anugerah Colomadu Special School include different levels of children's mental retardation, children's moods that change quickly, children who often lose focus and minor disturbances from other friends. Efforts to overcome these obstacles are understanding the character of students, accompanying children in every condition of the heart, always communicating with intellectual disability children, providing knowledge about religious characters slowly, patiently, and consistently, and giving warnings to other students who are unemployed. Based on this statement, it appears that if the principal and teachers want to internalize the character of intellectual disability children at the Anugerah Colomadu Special School, Karanganyar Regency, they can do it through habituation, guidance, exemplary and education that is carried out slowly, patiently and consistently.
