Abstract
Abstract The purpose of this study was to determine the chemical composition, the effect of artificial aging, and the effect of water-cooling media on the quenching process on the hardness value. The materials used are OEM, Local, and Import wheels which are melted in the kitchen and then printed using a sand mold at 5000 C for 5 minutes. Furthermore, the specimens were quenched in a water-cooling medium at 1800 C for 4 hours. The tools used are Metal Scan Spectrometer, Olympus Metallurgical Microscope with ASTM E 3 standard, and Brinell hardness testing with ASTM E 10 standard. The results gained from the chemical composition of the raw material contained Al on the wheels are respectively (93.59%, 92.15%, and 93.18%). The content of the SI elements on the wheels respectively (6.09%, 3.65%, and 6.47%). The elements content of the Mg on the wheels are respectively (0.0681%, 0.0507%, and 0.0623%). The results of the Brinell hardness test for OEM raw material wheels are HB85.4 kgf / mm, the results of quenching of water media HB = 48.76 kgf / mm, and the results of artificial aging media for water HB = 55.69 kgf / mm.
