Abstract

Introduction : Administration of high doses of Acetaminophen will be oxidized to a toxic metabolite, namely NAPQI so that it will increase the production of ROS and cause oxidative stress. Oxidative stress conditions can trigger a decrease in red blood cells, causing anemia. CAPE as an antioxidant component of Propoelix™ acts as an inhibitor of oxidative stress in anemia conditions so as to improve CKD conditions. Objective : To determine the effect of giving Propoelix™ on hemoglobin levels in male rats of wistar albino strain of chronic kidney failure model. Research Methods: This study was conducted using a true experimental design with a pre-test – post-test control group design on male rats of wistar albino strain. The number of samples was 28 rats which were divided into 4 groups, namely group 1 (non-chronic kidney failure), group 2 (chronic kidney failure group), group 3 (treatment group I), and group 4 (treatment group 2). Measurement of hemoglobin levels was carried out using the cyanmethemoglobin method. Data analysis was carried out with the One Way Anova test. Results : The results showed that there was a significant decrease in hemoglobin levels (p<0,01) in the group of rats given Acetaminophen at a dose of 1 g/kg BW for 14 days and a significant increase in hemoglobin levels (p<0,01) in the treatment group. The results of the analysis also showed that the administration of Propoelix™ at a dose of 0.0432 g/200 g BW/day was more effective in increasing hemoglobin levels than Propoelix™ at a dose of 0.0216 g/200 g BW/day. Conclusion : Administration of PropoelixTM at a dose of 0.0216 gram/200 g of body weight for rats and a dose of 0.0432 gram/200 g of body weight for rats for 21 days had an effect on increasing hemoglobin levels of rats with chronic renal failure models.
