Abstract
Reservoirs are large ponds that collect water when there is excess water and can be used when there is a lack of water. Parangjoho Reservoir was built for the main purpose of providing irrigation services. With several factors that have implications for land use change and climate change, it is possible that the reservoir may experience a sudden increase in water volume which can result in flooding. This research was conducted to determine the ability of reservoirs to control flooding. The data used is 10 years of daily rainfall data which is processed by the Thiessen method into maximum area daily rainfall, then the results are processed with statistical parameters to determine the distribution of rainfall used, namely Log Pearson III. Then test the distribution of chi squared, and continue with the analysis of the flood discharge plan for the 1000 year return period. The planned flood discharge value using the rational method is 590.63 m3/s and the planned flood discharge using the HSS Nakayasu method is 390.699 m3/s. Then perform a flood routing analysis by comparing the inflow discharge from the HSS Nakayasu flood discharge with the reservoir outflow discharge. The results of the flood tracing show that the reservoir has increased its water level to an elevation of +197.59 m asl and has a guard height of 1.41 m. The water level due to wind is +196.202 m.asl, has a guard height of 2.798 m. While the water level due to the earthquake was +195,518 m.asl and had a guard height of 2.482 m. Based on the calculation of the maximum water level, the Parangjoho reservoir is still effective in controlling floods that occur because the water does not overflow the body of the weir and is still below the elevation of the weir's lighthouse (+199.00 m.asl).
