Abstract

Instagram is one of the internet-based social networking sites. Today, many people in Indonesia use Instagram to be used as entertainment material by uploading photos or videos or just looking around. But not only that, now Instagram can be used as a means to provide motivation indirectly but through illustrations. This study examines how the discourse built by motivational messages is in the form of illustrations and focuses on messages contained in the @nkcthi Instagram account with the illustrated text category. The theory used is discourse analysis and qualitative descriptive methods. The data collection technique used is Observation on the @nkcthi Instagram account by looking at the content presented in the January 2020-June 2020 period. In that period, there were 5 uploads that fell into the category. This study found that the text discourse on each upload in the @nkcthi Instagram account succeeded in building a message and there were four types of motivation in it, namely achievement motivation, extrinsic motivation, fear motivation, and investment motivation.
