Abstract
Masculinity is formed because of the fantasy of how a man should behave like. Media content such as Korean dramas is one of the accesses that have a role in imaging masculinity. So everyone will have different constructions and perceptions in understanding the image of male masculinity. This study aims to see the reception of female audiences towards masculinity in the “Korean drama Crash Landing On You” through Stuart Hall's reception analysis theory. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The population in this study were female students, housewives, and career women in Palangkaraya who had watched the K-drama Crash Landing On You. The research sample was taken based on a purposive technique and found six informants. Data was collected by semi-structured in-depth interviews and literature study. The results show that there are various meanings of the encoding-decoding process for female viewers based on the construction of Korean male masculinity, Captain Ri and the ideal masculinity, and masculinity in terms of profession and appearance. Then it divides the six informants into dominant, negotiating, and opposition reading positions based on reception analysis theory.
