Abstract
Whatsapp is used as a medium for disseminating information and messages. With the support of whatsapp group chat, it is easier for people to get messages and information. During the covid-19 pandemic, everyone will use technology as a way for them to communicate and get information, one of which is using whatsapp group chat. This study aims to describe information motives and social motives on the effectiveness of whatsapp group chat media in disseminating information about Covid-19 to UMS students. The type of research used is descriptive quantitative research. The population in this study were active students of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling and simple random sampling. Samples taken amounted to 100 people. Techniques in data collection using a questionnaire through Google Form. The results of this study stated that there was a satisfaction level of 33.13% related to social motives, namely by providing advice and information to others about covid-19.
