Abstract
This study aims to find out how much competition level occurs between the daily press industry, it called Suara Merdeka and Republika Jawa Tengah judging from the category of news rubrics and news circulation based on dependence niche breadth and niche overlap in the June 2020 periode. The research method that the authors use to analyze news rubrics and news circulation is to use content analysis. The content analysis method is used to take advantage of the content in both newspapers. The next step is that the data that has been analyzed will be calculated using a Niche Theory formula that serves to find out the source of media life support, namely (niche breadth) newspapers and (niche overlap) newspapers. To find out the niche breadth, when viewed from the news rubric, researchers will take specialist categories, tend to be specialists, tend to be generalists, and generalists. As for knowing the niche overlap between newspapers will take very high, high, medium, low and very low categories. The results of this study showed that niche breadth is based on the category of daily newspaper rubric Suara Merdeka of 9.21 and Republika Jawa Tengah of 9.96, which the figure shows to more generalist. Niche breadth based on the category of news circulation shows that Suara Merdeka has a generalist of 2.13 and Republika Jawa Tengah is generalist of 2.48. While Niche Overlap news rubric category is very high because it is close to 0 is 0.023080 and the category of news circulation is a medium category that is 0.501067.
