Abstract
The high fat content in fast food results in disturbances in the metabolism of the progesterone hormone, causing an imbalance of the prostaglandin hormone which stimulates uterine contractions during the luteal period so that it can cause excessive pain during menstruation. The results of a preliminary survey conducted on 17 students, found that 18% of students often consumed fast food and 82% of students experienced menstrual pain.This study aimed to analyze correlation between fast food consumption with the level of menstrual pain in class X and XI students of SMAN 4 Surakarta. This type of research was an observational study with a cross-sectional approach. The research respondents were students at the age of 14-16 years old and had menstrual periods. Sampling used quota sampling technique with a total of 90 students. Data on consumption was fast food obtained by filling out the Food frequency Questionnaire and data on the level of menstrual pain obtained by numeric rating scale (NRS). Data analysis used Chi-Square test. The results 61.2% of respondents experienced menarche at the age of ≤ 12 years. 64.4% of respondents experienced activity disorders during menstruation. 25.5% of respondents consumed drugs/drinks during menstruation. 66.7% of respondents experienced abdominal pain during menstruation and 50% of respondents ate fast food frequently. 65.2% of respondents consuming fast food frequently did not feel pain or suffered mild pain, 41.7% of respondents eating fast food rarely suffered moderate to severe pain. The results of the test using chi square showed the value of p = 0,729 (p > 0.05) 95% OR value of 0,749. This conclusion There is no correlation between consumption of fast food and the level of menstrual pain in class X and XI students of SMAN 4 Surakarta.
