Abstract
Background: Stunting in Indonesia based on Riskesdas 2018 data still has a high prevalence of 30,8%. Stunting is caused by lack of nutrients in the long term, especially protein. Protein has many functions in toddlers, one of which is to support child growth Objective: This study aimed to review and conclude the results of various research articles regarding the correlation between protein intake and the incidence of stunting in infants aged 24-59 months Research Methodology: This study was literature review of 10 research articles having the theme of protein intake and the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 24-59 months. Articles were searched using the Google Scholar database with inclusion criteria of publication in the last 10 years (2011-2021), with national reputation Sinta 1-4, full text in Indonesian or English, research subjects were toddlers aged 24-59 months who were stunted and non-stunted, and healthy without physical disability and infectious diseases (Upper Respiratory Tract Infection & diarrhea). Research Results: Characteristics of stunting under five by age was dominant in the 2-3 year age group. The incidence of stunting in three articles with a cross sectional design had a prevalence of 41.1%; 36.1%; 21%; whereas seven articles with a case-control design had a prevalence of 50%. The lowest protein intake in the non-stunting group was 90.1% and the stunting group was 68.7%. Nine articles had relationship value and one article had no relationship value. Conclusion: Based on nine articles there is a significant correlation between protein intake and the incidence of stunting if protein is consumed at least 90% of the total daily requirement and consumes quality protein such as animal protein sources.
