Abstract
Freedom is the process most awaited by prisoners who are serving their sentence. However, prisoners also feel anxiety before being released. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between self-concept and prisoner anxiety before being released. The hypothesis of this research is "There is a negative relationship between self-concept and anxiety before being released". The sample in this study was 30 prisoners before being released in the Class II B Detention Center Wonogiri, Central Java using purposive sampling technique with characteristics for prisoners who have undergone 2/3 of the fostered period and will be released soon in a period of < 1 year. Data were collected using a scale, namely the anxiety scale based on the scale. Data analysis using Product Moment correlation analysis. The results showed that there is a very significant negative relationship between self-concept and prisoners' anxiety before being released, this means that the higher the prisoner's self-concept, the lower the prisoner's anxiety before being released, and vice versa, the lower the prisoner's self-concept, the higher the prisoner's anxiety before being released. The category of anxiety is low, while the self-concept is in the high category. The effective contribution of the self-concept variable to anxiety is 46.2%, while the remaining 53.8% is influenced by other variables, such as environmental, biological, and cognitive and emotional factors. This means that the anxiety of prisoners before being released is one of them determined by the self-concept variable of 46.2%.
