Abstract

In the globalization era, educational institutions are required to be able to answer the globalization challenges by preparing competent graduates while protecting their morals and attitudes. This includes traditional Islamic boarding schools (salafiyah) which are also required to be able to survive in the midst of globalization. The Tremas Pacitan - East Java Islamic boarding school is no exception, which since 1820 has been consistent with its character as a traditional Islamic educational institution. This study aims to find out the strategy of the Tremas Pacitan Islamic boarding school in East Java in maintaining its existence in 2020 and to find out the formulation of the curriculum to equip students to face globalization. This research is a qualitative research, with deductive and interpretative analysis methods. This research is a descriptive study, while based on its location, this research is categorized as field research. The informants in this study were the leaders, administrators and teachers of the Tremas boarding school. The data source in the form of documents are curriculum documents, student affairs, and infrastructure. Data finding was carried out by observation, documentation and interviews. The results of the research show that the strategy of the Tremas Pacitan Islamic boarding school in East Java in maintaining its existence in 2020; first, optimize the management function of Islamic boarding schools by carrying out the distribution of authority in five aspects, namely ma'hadiyah, majlis Maarif, anasyathoth, finance and secretarial. second, carry out formal education starting from the levels of kindergarten, MTs., MA, Vocational Institutions and Ma'had Aly, third carry out various non-formal and informal education activities as the consistency of Tremas boarding school towards the salafiyah education model,fourth, to establish vocational institutions to equip santri with skills, fifth to establish Ma'had Aly as an effort to produce ulama cadres. Pondok Tremas curriculum is prepared independently from the vision and mission of Pondok Tremas and absorbs the aspirations of the community, as well as adopting some curriculum content from the Ministry of Religion and the Education Office. In general, Tremas Islamic boarding school curriculum contains several aspects, first the cultivation of faith, morality and enriching Islamic scientific knowledge through the study of the yellow book “Kitab Kuning”, second strengthening Arabic language, third Adaptation of Pondok Tremas by adding general science lessons, fourth equipping students with skills education, fifth enriching the repertoire of Islamic thought by studying the works of ulama' Nusantara.
