Abstract
Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a lung disease because there is a persistent blockage of airflow from the lungs that interferes with normal breathing and is not fully reversible. Shortness of breath in COPD patients is progressive, irreversible, and reduces activity tolerance. Walking exercise is one of the important components in the rehabilitation program for COPD patients that can increase activity tolerance and health status of COPD patients. Meanwhile, pursed lips breathing reduces shortness of breath and helps COPD patients optimize their ability to carry out activities of daily living and improve their quality of life. Walking exercises and pursed lips breathing can be done at home as a simple exercise program and do not require additional equipment. Research Objectives: to knowing the effect of walking exercise and pursed lips breathing to improving the quality of life of COPD patients Research Method: This type of research is a literature review with a critical review approach. This study examines the previous research about low back pain and reviewed using the PEDro scale. There are 11 items on the PEDro scale that are used to discuss lower back pain reduction. Research Results: Based on the results of the critical review approach, there are 7 journals that included in specified criteria and has their quality tested with the PEDro scale. A number of 4 journals stated that there are effects of walking exercise on COPD, 3 other journals stated the influence of pursed lips breathing on COPD Conclusion: Walking exercise and pursed-lip breathing improve the quality of life of COPD patients, and reduce dynamic hyperinflation which is one of the causes of dyspnoea in COPD patients.
