Abstract

Gamelan is a collection of traditional ensemble musical instruments in Indonesia that has slendro and pelog scales. There are various types of gamelan that are still in the same group as the family (balungan), namely saron. Saron itself is made of an alloy of copper (Cu) and tin (Sn), in an alloy of three to ten by weighing its mass. If used as a mass percentage of tin (Sn) 23% and copper (Cu) 77%. In the process of forging and extending the saron blade material. In the gluing process, it is generally carried out using water cooling media and does not go through a heat containment process. Therefore, this study was conducted in order to compare the quenching process using cooling media including water, oil, and air. From the results of testing the hardness value there is a difference between using water, oil and air cooling media with heat retention for 1 minute. Where the average hardness value with water cooling media is 142 BHN, oil is 223 BHN and air is 223 BHN. From the results of the surface roughness test, the following results are obtained for the average roughness value of saron blades with water cooling media having a roughness value of 0.3488 m, for oil cooling media 0.3147 m, and for air cooling media having a value of 0.3079 m . The results of the microstructure test show that there are differences in the size of the copper (Cu) structure. And the results for testing the chemical composition there are differences in the percentage of copper (Cu) and tin (Sn) compositions, where for water cooling media the Cu content is 78.11% and Sn 21.66%, for oil cooling media the Cu content is 78.12% and Sn 21.63%, for the air cooling media content of Cu 76.81% and Sn 22.97%.
