Abstract

This research aims to understand and describe the comprehension of the online newsreader audience on Solopos.com regarding the Covid-19 vaccination news report. The data collected were analyzed by observing and interviewing the selected subjects. The subjects of this research selected from the purposive sampling which is Surakarta citizen that has been recovered from Covid-19. A lot of news reporting about the Covid- 19 pandemic phenomenon has become common news and causing various opinions. This research using the Reception Theory by Stuart Hall to understand three positions of the audience in comprehending the text, which are Dominant/Hegemonic reading, Negotiated Position, and Oppositional/Counter Hegemonic reading. The research findings show that only two positions of audiences are obtained, which are Dominant/Hegemonic Position and Negotiated Position. Most of the informants are in a negotiated position, indicating that the Solopos.com news report regarding Covid-19 vaccination only partially accepted in the process of comprehending, and the informant in this position has criticisms about the news they consume. However, one informant was also found in the Dominant/Hegemonic Position, indicating that the informant received the news he consumed.
