Abstract
Background: Prelacteal food is food or drink that is given to the baby shortly after birth before getting the breast milk. One of the factors that influence prelacteal feeding is delivery by cesarean section. Pain, immobilization, and fatigue after cesarean section make it difficult for mothers to breastfeed their babies so that prelacteal foods are given. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the correlation between delivery by cesarean section and feeding the prelacteal food to babies <24 months of age in South Asia. Methodology: This study used the literature review method on the journal articles with the research design of cohort and cross-sectional obtained from the Pubmed and Google Scholar databases that had been indexed by Scopus (Q1-Q4). The inclusion criteria were full-text articles in English, published in the last 10 years (2011-2021), the subject was mother with <24 months old babies in South Asia, and the exclusive criteria was the article that could not be accessed. Results: From a total of 7 selected articles, 6 articles showed significant correlation between the two variables while 1 other article did not have significant correlation between the two. Conclusion: Cesarean delivery significantly affects feeding in babies <24 months of age in South Asia.
