Abstract

Early initiation of breastfeeding is the proportion of children born in the last 24 months who are placed in the breast within one hour of birth. According to Riskesdas 2018, nationally, the early initiation of breastfeeding coverage is 58.2%. This figure must increase to achieve the global target of 70%. The factors that influence early initiation of breastfeeding practice are the mother's attitude, the role of health workers, and the support of the closest people. This study aimed to analyze factors affecting early initiation of breastfeeding in Indonesia. The research method used in this study was a literature review using inclusion criteria, which was full-text articles in Indonesian or English, sources indexed by Sinta 1-4, or indexed by Scopus, cross-sectional or case-control research designs, and articles published in 2011 to 2021. The exclusion criteria were articles that did not contain factors that influence the practice of early initiation of breastfeeding, so that six journals were selected and analyzed. The review results based on six articles showed that the coverage of early initiation of breastfeeding practices from 6 articles was 29.8%-83.3%, which meant that there were still several articles below the national and global targets. According to 6 articles, the factors that influence the practice of EIBF were attitudes towards EIBF, knowledge of EIBF, mother's education, mother's occupation, father's occupation, support from close people, support from health workers, birth order, wealth level, skin contact between baby and mother, weight baby at birth and delivery. The results of the analysis of these various factors were the factors that influenced EIBF practice. The factors that influenced EIBF practice were knowledge of EIBF, support from the closest people, and support from health workers. The factors that influence early initiation of breastfeeding practice are the mother's knowledge, support from the closest people, and support from health workers. A promotion program regarding EIBF to increase the prevalence of IMD practice is needed to be optimally implemented.
