Abstract

Stunting is a condition that fails to grow in children aged 0-23 months due to chronic malnutrition. One of the factors of stunting is Exclusive Breastfeeding. Breastmilk contains nutrients which needed by the body so it can meet nutrients and increase bodyimmunity to reduce risk of stunting. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between exclusive breastfeeding with incidence of stunting in children in children under two years in the east of Indonesia. The research methodology used was literature (narrative) review in journal articles with case-control and cross-sectional research design in the last 10 years and indexed Sinta S1 - S4. The criteria of inclusion were the form of journal articles with full text written in Bahasa Indonesia or English and research subjects were children under two years. The results of the review based on 7 articles showed there were four articles having a significant correlation on both variables (p<0,05; OR: 6,42 – 2,65 CI: 1,14 – 6,16), while the other 3 articles stated that breast milk was exclusive as protection against stunting (p>0,05; OR: 1,25 – 5,97 CI: 0,16 – 4,57). Exclusive breastfeeding can directly affect stunting in children under two years so that it is necessary to conduct a program like an education and promotion of breast milk to mothers to reduce stunting.
