Abstract

SMA N 2 Pekalongan is one of the best public high schools in the city of Pekalongan. SMA N 2 Pekalongan is located close to the North coast in Panjang Baru Village, North Pekalongan District, which is a flood-prone area. Every year SMA N 2 Pekalongan will be submerged by floods as high as 30-50 cm and result in damage to the available educational facilities. The damage to these educational facilities meant that teaching and learning activities would not take place as usual, and could lead to unequal distribution and a decline in the quality of education in flood-affected areas. However, SMA N 2 Pekalongan cannot be moved to a flood-safe area because it is a means of education for people on the North coast of Pekalongan, as well as a zoning system for school registration. This condition is the background for the redesign of SMA N 2 Pekalongan into a flood adaptive school and is still based on the Regulation of the Minister of National Education No. 24 of 2007, and uses an eco-architectural approach as a solution to the problems that occur. This aims to equalize the quality of education in flood-affected environments with those that are not affected by flooding. The eco-architectural approach is applied in the redesign of SMA N 2 Pekalongan because eco-architecture has concepts and principles in addressing problems that occur in the site environment. The planning process in realizing this flood adaptive school is in the form of planning ideas, site concepts, space concepts, eco-architectural concepts, building mass concepts, building appearance concepts, structural and utility concepts. This flood adaptive school redesign is expected to equalize the quality of education aspects in flood-affected areas, as well as provide comfort to school residents despite the floods.
