Abstract
Bronze is the best material for making musical instruments such as gamelan, drum cymbals, guitar strings and some wind instruments such as trumpets and clarinet. Saron itself is a gamelan instrument made of copper alloy (Cu) with tin (Sn). The composition ratio is 3 to 10, made by melting, printing, forging and cooling quickly with water. Then proceed with the final process, namely raising and forming the tone. This research discusses the process of making saron in tone 7 from start to finish using quantitative methods. The 7 tone blade is varied with three different alloys, for the first alloy is the alloy that has been determined by the gamelan maker, namely 1.88 kg copper (Cu) and 0.52 kg tin (Sn) compared to the addition of a copper alloy to 2 kg (Cu) and reduction of copper to 1.7 kg (Cu) with the same tin weight to obtain the parameters of the hardness value, microstructure, surface roughness value and chemical composition. The process of making specimens is carried out in one factory with the same maker, after the finishing process is then continued with hardness testing using the brinnel hardeness testers with a load of 62.5 kgf and a micro photo with a metallurgical microscope. From the brinnel hardness test results showed that the highest hardness value on the 7 tone saron blades was 242 BHN in alloy 78.33% Cu - 21.67% Sn, water cooling media. The forging process is carried out at a temperature of 411ºC - 356ºC and has a phase δ which is harder and brittle. Then it is heated in phase ɣ with heating temperature of 520ºC - 580ºC to obtain tough and ductile properties.
