Abstract

This study aimed to describe the representation of metafunctions on the EFL students’ recount text writing. This study describe the representation of the three metafunctions, (1) ideational metafunction, (2) interpersonal metafunction and (3) textual metafunction, on the students recount text. The data of this study were the clauses in the students recount text contains of metafunctions. The data were taken from 50 students at SMA Negeri 1 Kartasura. This study used descriptive qualitative. The researcher found the material process, actor and circumstance of location were the dominant process, participant and circumstance used by the students in their writing. However, the students also used declarative mood types, finite past tense and present tense in their recount text. Besides that, unmarked topical theme is the dominant theme in the students recount text. It showed that the students have been convenient with recount text characteristic. However, there were some students still not convenient with the recount text characteristic because of they were used present tense and modalization of probability.
