Abstract

Saron is one of the gamelan instruments with the balungan family. The saron musical instrument has two types of tones, namely slendro and pelog, which play it by being hit with a wooden hammer. Saron is made of an alloy between copper (Cu) and tin (Sn), with an alloy ratio of three to ten where 23% tin (Sn) and 77% copper (Cu). One of the processes of making saron is gluing (cooling). In this process, it is generally carried out using water cooling media. The purpose of this research was to determine the composition content of the lath of pelog tone 4 (pat), to determine changes in microstructure, to determine changes in hardness, and to determine changes in the roughness value of the lath of pelog saron tone 4 (pat) after the cooling process using media water, oil, air. From the results of testing the hardness value there are differences between using water, oil, and air cooling media. Where the hardness value with water cooling media is 165 BHN, oil is 218 BHN and air is 209 BHN. From the results of the surface roughness test, the following results show that the roughness value of saron lath with water cooling media has a roughness value of 0.6810 µm, for oil and air cooling media 0.3742 µm. The results of the microstructure test there is difference in the size of the copper (Cu) structure. And the results for testing the chemical composition there were differences in the percentage composition of copper (Cu) and tin (Sn), where for cooling media the Cu content was 78.23% and Sn 21.55%, for oil cooling media the Cu content was 77.55% and Sn 22.12%, for air conditioning media the content of Cu is 77.86% and Sn is 21.84%.
