Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the role of the principal as a supervisor and manager in improving the quality of education at SD Negeri Mangunsari 01 Salatiga. Qualitative descriptive research method. Informants involved school principals, teachers and employees. data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis uses three paths, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. the validity of the data using source triangulation techniques and method triangulation.The results of this study indicate that the role of a principal as a supervisor to improve the quality of education has three strategies for the role of the principal as a supervisor which include: planning an academic supervision program, implementing an academic supervision program and taking follow-up actions from the supervision program that has been implemented. The supervision process is carried out by the principal with direct observation by visiting the class where the principal assesses the teacher's performance in the teaching and learning process. Before making observations, the principal provides guidance by providing time, materials, classes and tools needed in the implementation of supervision.The results of the supervision will be discussed in the meeting as feedback from the principal and the supervised teachers. The principal's role as manager at SD Negeri Mangunsari 01 Salatiga takes the following steps: program planning, program organization, human resource development and staff mobilization. With these steps, among others, the implementation of total quality, involving external parties, and continuous evaluation, so that SD Negeri Mangunsari 01 Salatiga becomes a quality-based education with a passing percentage of 100%.
