Abstract
The aims of this study are: 1) To describe the role of housewives in improving the family economy through the frozen gethuk business, 2) to describe the obstacles faced by housewives who work to improve the family economy through the frozen gethuk business, 3) to describe the efforts made by housewives in the face of existing obstacles. In this study, researchers used a qualitative type of research with an ethnographic design. The resource persons in the study included housewives, husbands of housewives, and children of the housewives. Data collection techniques using interview methods and observation methods. The data analysis technique used is non-statistical qualitative data which consists of three streams of activities that run simultaneously, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The conclusions that can be drawn from this study are: 1) Housewives improve the family's economy by working in the OP FOOD home industry to process frozen gethuk, where housewives earn Rp. 50,000-Rp.60,000 per day where the money is used by housewives to meet the needs of food and snacks for children and then other needs are met by her husband. 2) Constraints experienced by housewives while working there are 3 of them, namely the difficulty of obtaining raw materials for cassava, the production of frozen gethuk that is not permanent, and fatigue, 3) Efforts made by housewives in overcoming these obstacles are by helping home industry owners to find and select suppliers of cassava, carry out intensive promotions, as well as share and ask for help from husbands or family members to complete household chores.
