Abstract
Lightning can strike suddenly and cause enormous damage. One way to protect buildings from lightning strikes is to install a tool called a lightning rod.Lightning rod is a device that functions to divert the electrical voltage from a lightning strike to the ground. Lightning rods are usually installed on the roof of buildings, houses, or other buildings. Lightning rod technology can be further developed with the Charge Inverting Method whose working principle uses the inverting Op-Amp (Operational Amplifier) operating system and spark gap. The design of this tool is divided into several processes, the first is from the reading of the payload by the Reference Module which functions to read the charge that is inversely proportional to the charge in the cloud, due to the emergence of the electromagnetic field from the cloud before the lightning strike, as the Op-Amp referensi reference input. The working principle of the Inverting Op-Amp is to reverse the input phase of the Reference Module, while the Spark gap itself functions as a protective Inverting equipment in the event of a direct lightning strike, and Spark gap will channel lightning currents directly to the ground. The entire area of the house is protected using the Rolling Ball and Mesh method as the grounding system. In this study, R-C circuit for an impulse voltage generator whose output signal will be the input for the Inverting Op-Amp circuit. This inverting circuit simulation uses 3 input voltages, for the resistance value used ranges from 1 kΩ to 60 kΩ. The purpose of this study is to simulate an external lightning rod system and determine the voltage change from a lightning strike, and this study uses the MATLAB Simulink software as a means to simulate the inverting Op-Amp circuit as a charge inverting lightning rod. The results of the simulation are in the form of a comparison of the values of each output wave, to determine the voltage gain given by the inverting Op-Amp circuit
