Abstract
The higher population density has an impact on the need for clean water sources. The increasing demand for clean water is proportional to the volume of domestic wastewater discharge. Pollution by domestic wastewater is characterized by the presence of Coliform bacteria in ground water. Groundwater that has been contaminated with Coliform bacteria undergoes an moving process and is spread according to the direction of groundwater flow. Groundwater containing coliform bacteria is no longer suitable for use as drinking water. Groundwater that is not suitable for consumption for drinking water is feared to have an impact on health, so it is necessary to treat it first before it is used for drinking water. The objectives of this study are (1) to identify the distribution of proper ground water for drinking water according to the quality standard for the content of Coliform bacteria based on the Regulation of the Minister of Health No. 492 of 2010 concerning Drinking Water Quality Requirements in Colomadu District, Karanganyar Regency. (2) Analyzing population density on the content of Coliform bacteria in Colomadu District, Karanganyar Regency. This research method uses a survey method, taking groundwater samples for laboratory testing with the Stratified Proportional Random Sampling technique based on population density. Sampling of Water Level (TMA) with Purposive Sampling technique. Methods The analysis of this research uses comparative analysis, Pearson Product Moment correlation analysis and spatial analysis. The results showed that all samples of groundwater sources used by the community in the study area did not comply with the bacteriological quality standards of the Minister of Health Regulation No. 492 of 2010 concerning Drinking Water Quality Requirements, this indicates that the groundwater samples that were examined by laboratory tests were not suitable for drinking water. The results of statistical tests showed that the effect of population density on the content of Coliform bacteria was only 4.8%. The results of the overlay mapping of the direction of groundwater flow based on population density and the distribution of Coliform bacteria content shows the direction of groundwater flow according to the direction of its flow and into the river flow, so it is possible that river water in the study area is also at risk of being polluted by coliform bacteria.
