Abstract

Background: High blood pressure disease or often called hypertension is an increase in blood pressure on the walls of the arteries, blood pressure shows results above 140 mmHg systolic and 90 mmHg for diastolic. Hypertension is known as the silent killer because the symptoms of this disease are not specific, can attack anyone and at any time, and can cause degenerative diseases to death. One form of effort to prevent complications of hypertension is to increase the prevention of hypertension. Individuals with hypertension are advised to carry out self-management as one of the disease management in everyday life. Good self-management means that patients are actively involved in their care and are able to make decisions that support their health, including knowing when to seek professional help. Purpose: To determine the magnitude of the relationship of self-management with the quality of life of patients with hypertension Method: This type of research is quantitative with a cross-sectional design. The sample of this study amounted to 86 respondents. sampling technique with purposive sampling. method of data collection using a Self Management Behavior Questionnaire (HSMBQ) and a quality of life questionnaire based on the WHOQOL – BREF scale. Method of data analysis using rank-spearman test Results: Based on the results of the study, it was found that the majority of respondents were male as many as 51 respondents (57.2%), the majority of respondents aged 51-60 years were 41 respondents (41.6), the majority of respondents worked as housewives as many as 15 respondents ( 16.8%), the majority of respondents have high school education as many as 48 respondents (43.8%), the majority of respondents earn 1,900,000-3,000,000 rupiah as many as 32 respondents (36%), the majority of respondents have a Normal BMI 52 respondents (58.4 %), the majority of respondents experienced level 1 hypertension with the number of respondents as many as 56 respondents (62.9%), the majority of self-management respondents were in good category as many as 31 respondents (34.8%), the majority of respondents' quality of life received sufficient categories, namely 45 respondents (50.8%). Based on the test results with the rank-spearmen test, it was found that there is a relationship between self-management and quality of life. The most dominant value is sufficient self-management treatment with sufficient quality of life with 42 (91.3%). with p-value 0.000 < 0.05. Conclusion: There is a relationship between self management and quality of life in patients with hypertension
