Abstract

This study aims to analyze aspects of women's struggles, the reasons why the struggles and resistances of the main characters in the Freedom Writers Diary novel are very meaningful, and describe how the struggles are described in the Freedom Writers Diary novel. In this research, descriptive-qualitative is the method used. Researchers used two sources of data in the study, namely: 1.) Primary data sources from the novel Freedom Writers Diary by Erin Gruwell 2.) Secondary data sources from journals and articles obtained from the internet related to the novel being studied. This study was analyzed using a feminist approach. According to Miles and Huberman (2015), in the data process the researcher focuses on 3 core activities, namely: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or data verification. The results of this study, first the researchers found the forms of struggle contained in the novel Freedom Writers Diary, namely: the struggle to achieve dreams and the struggle in the form of love. The second finding, the researcher found 2 forms of resistance from the main character, namely: being a woman who dared to refuse, and being an independent woman. The struggle and resistance of the main character in this novel is described as something that is considered important in society. In this novel there are many open discussions about cultural and racial differences of opinion.
