Abstract
The changes of land that are not built into the construction of buildings affect environmental impacts, one of which is the urban heat island (UHI) phenomenon. This phenomenon causes an increase in temperature in urban areas than the surrounding areas. Surakarta City has 66% of built-up land so that it can be identified that the UHI phenomenon may occur. Meanwhile, one of the steps that can be used to reduce the impact of the UHI phenomenon is the development of green open spaces (RTH). This study aims to analyze the UHI phenomenon and its land use as well as the distribution of green open space in the city of Surakarta so that the development of green open space can be formulated as a mitigation of the UHI phenomenon. The acquisition of the UHI phenomenon was carried out through the urban boundary layer on LST from the LANDSAT-8 imagery as well as field surveys to determine land use in the UHI area. The distribution of green space is obtained through the maximum likelihood classification using the GEOEYE-1 image. Meanwhile, the Directive for the Development of Green Open Space is carried out based on the guidelines of the Minister Number 05 of 2008 which regulates the Guidelines and Provision of Green Open Space in Urban Areas. The results of UHI in Surakarta City show that the area of the UHI phenomenon is 36.55% of the area of Surakarta City with the largest temperature increase of 3.03 oC. Meanwhile, the distribution of green open space in Surakarta City is 28.58% of the total area of Surakarta City which consists of private green open space and public green open space. The area of green open space in the city of Surakarta has not been able to cope with the UHI phenomenon so it is necessary to develop green open space. There are 421 zones resulting from the direction of green open space development in the city of Surakarta based on the UHI phenomenon with the dominance of green open space development with the type of green open space Pekarangan and green open space for offices, shops, and business places as well as dominant plants for development namely Kiara Payung, Banyan, Acacia, Bungur, Tanjung, and Angsana.
