Abstract
Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a chronic idiopathic condition that causes pain, stiffness, fatigue, and tenderness in muscles, tendons, and joints. Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is characterized by poor sleep, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and indigestion. Pain is the most common symptom of complaints for FMS patients. Of all the treatments that can be given to FMS patient, exercise is a highly recommended treatment in chronic conditions and is the most recommended non-pharmacological therapy for treating FMS. Reviews that discuss the effects of exercise on pain in FMS are still very limited. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of exercise on pain in fibromyalgia syndrome. Search using Google scholar database, PubMed, Science direct, Cochrane library, and PEDro according to predetermined inclusion criteria. Found 12 articles that match the inclusion criteria of the study. These articles have varying effect sizes, namely small, medium, and large. Single exercise has a small effect size, the combination of exercise with exercise has a small-medium effect size, and the combination of exercise with other therapies has a large effect size. The effectiveness of exercise on pain depends on the form of exercise and the FITT given.
