Abstract
This study aims to describe the accuracy, effectiveness, constraints, and solutions of using audio-visual media combined with the Discovery Learning model in increasing understanding of Indonesian democracy values in class XI OTKP 1 students of SMK Negeri 1 Pedan in the 2020/2021 academic year. This research uses mixing methods or a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. The quantitative research design uses pre-experimental with One Group Pretest Posttest Design, while the qualitative uses a case study. Quantitative data collection techniques use tests, while qualitative uses interviews and observations. Test the validity of the item test using the product moment formula rough numbers and test the reliability of the test instrument using the KR 20. The validity of qualitative data used triangulation of sources and techniques. Quantitative data analysis used Paired Sample T-test. Qualitative data analysis used a flow model. The results showed that the pretest average of 77.5 increased to 87.25 in the posttest. Paired Sample T-test shows that the value of t count is greater than t table, namely 5.137> 2.086. Based on these results, it can be seen that there is an increase in the average value of the pretest and posttest. The hypothesis proposed in the form of Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, meaning that there is a difference between before treatment (pretest) and after treatment (posttest) through the use of audio-visual media combined with the Discovery Learning model in class XI OTKP 1 SMK Negeri 1 Pedan. This difference indicates an increase in the mean score of understanding the values of Indonesian democracy between before (pretest) and after treatment (posttest). The obstacle faced is limited time. An alternative solution to overcome these obstacles is to prepare the material properly and manage time or make available time effective. The conclusion above implies that teachers who want students' understanding of the values of Indonesian democracy are very appropriate to use audio-visual media in combination with the Discovery Learning model.
