Abstract

This study aims to determine the characterization of gray cast iron material due to the influence of Silicon Fero (Fe-Si) 2% in the casting process with Metal and Sand Molds. Making specimens from cast iron material gray specimen making process using casting method sand casting and iron casting. From the hardness test results obtained hardness test results with the upper metal mold of 226 BHN, the middle part experienced an increase to 251 BHN and at the bottom experienced the highest increase of 264 BHN. In the transition mold there was an increase in hardness, namely the top 214 BHN, the middle part increased to 224 BHN and the bottom increased by 231 BHN. In the upper sand mold of 189 BHN, the middle part experienced an increase of 208 BHN and the bottom also experienced an increase of 226 BHN. From the hardness test results from the addition of Silicon Fero (Fe-Si) 2% obtained the highest value on the lower metal mold with a hardness value of 264 BHN.
