Abstract
Background: The golden period of children’s growth and development starts from the time that the baby was in the womb until the first two years of life, including exclusive breastfeeding in early life. Based on the results of Riskesdas 2018, the proportion of breastfeeding pattern for infants 0-5 months in Indonesia is 37,3% exclusive breastfeeding, this shows that exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia still does not meet the minimum target of WHA, which is 50% in 2025. Breast milk is the main source of nutrition for babies in their golden age. The nutrition is necessary for the babies growth and development. Mother’s knowledge about breastmilk and breastcare are important factors for successful exclusive breastfeeding practice. Breastcare is a stimulation that can increase production and release of breast milk. So, education about breastcare is needed to support mothers in the effort of exclusive breastfeeding. Purpose: This study aims to determine the level of effectiveness of breastcare education on increasing knowledge of pregnant women in exclusive breastfeeding preparation. Methods: this study is a quantitative research with a quasy experimental design and pre-posttest with control design approach. The subjects were devided into two groups. The experimental group received breastcare education using leaflet and virtual meeting on google meet, while the control group only received breastcare education using leaflet. Results: Data analysis using wilxocon test showed that there are significance value between pre and posttest 1. The significance value of eksperimental group is 0,012 (p<0,05), while in the control group is 0,123 (p>0,05). Analysis of differences in the level of knowledge of pregnant women in the two groups using Mann whitney test obtained a significance value of 0,161 (p>0,05), than the secont test after a time lag obtained a significance value of 0,2 (p>0,05). The conclusion is breastcare education using leaflet and virtual meeting can increase knowledge of pregnant women, while breastcare education only using leaflet can’t increase the level of pregnant women knowledge in the exclusive breastfeeding preparation. However, both groups haven’t show any differences in th level of knowledge, due to the small number of samples.
