Abstract

The behavior of inter-religious harmony is a very sensitive aspect in a country with a high level of diversity, allowing the existence of a violation of the attitude of inter-religious harmony. This study aimed to examine empirically the correlation between emotional intelligence and attitude of the harmony among religion in Surakarta. The hypothesis in this study confirmed the presence of correlation between individuals’ emotional intelligence with their attitude toward inter-religious harmony in the residents of Surakarta. The population in this study was the residents of Surakarta. The subject of research was 150 residents of Surakarta selected by using cluster-purposive sampling technique. Method in this research was quantitative correlational study using 2 scales which were the scale of emotional intelligence (motional quotient) and the scale of religious harmony. Based on the results of the analysis, there was a correlation between emotional intelligence and religious harmony. This was proven by the value of the Pearson Product Moment correlation obtained by = 0,200 with a significance value (p-value) = 0,014 (p<0.05) which indicated that there was a correlation between the attitude of religious harmony with the intelligence of emotions. Author has great expectation regarding the study should be developed by other researchers by expanding the factors that affect inter-religious harmony such as respect, attribution, and CORFing so as to deepen the results of further research.
