Abstract
Heavy equipment is a machine used to help human work such as excavating soil, mining and other construction work. To supply power from heavy equipment, an internal combution engine is needed in the form of a diesel motor that has the best thermal efficiency. Because diesel engines are often used, care must be taken to keep the engine from breaking down. And at a certain time, the diesel engine must be overhauled to restore engine performance, such as the performance of a new engine. The engine overhaul process is an engine repair activity by dismantling all engine components to find out which components are damaged so that repairs can be made to restore engine performance or recondition the engine. The purpose of this research is to find out how to look for damage to the engine, the type of engine failure, the causes of engine failure, and steps to repair the damaged parts. The examination is carried out visually by other means; inspection of the engine cooling system (cooling system), inspection (check up) the lubrication system (lubrication system). The tools and materials used in the inspection procedure are Diesel Engine Excavator with a capacity of 20 tons, Feeler Gauge, Vernier caliper, Torque wrench, Tracker Wrench and Tool box. The results of research conducted by checking the lubrication system by checking the oil level, oil color, oil pan. Types of engine failure include the piston, cylinder linner, worn and scratched, and the gasket packing is leaking and the piston ring is experiencing erosion. Therefore, repair steps are done by replacing pistons, piston rings, cylinder liners, packing gaskets that are damaged and cannot be repaired with new ones.
