Abstract

Smartphone are sophisticated communication technology devices capable of communicating directly or indirectly. In addition, smartphone have several functions such as MP3, video, games, cameras, and even access the internet. In using smartphone, you will use a lot of hands, especially the thumbs, which if used excessively can cause interference with the thumb which is often called de quervain syndrome. De quervain syndrome is a form of tendon inflammation in the synovial sheath that covers the extensor pollicis brevis and abductor pollicis longus muscle accompanied by pain. To present the results of existing research then analyze, evaluate and synthesize the previous article regarding the relationship between the intensity of smartphone use and the risk of developing de quervain syndrome. Using a literature review study design. The database is sourced from pubmed, PEDro, scient direct, elsecier, googlr schoolar, published in the last 10 years and 7 articles that fit the research theme and inclusion criteria. As many as 7 articles were found showing thet te use of smartphone to send messages, access the internet and play games with excessive duration ( >6 hours per day) and were carried out continuously caused complaints of pain in the hand, especially the thumb which when the finkelstein test wa carried out showed positive results so that he was diagnosed with de quervain syndrome. The 7 articles show that high intensity of smartphone use correlates with a positive result frome the finkelstein test which indicates the occurrence of the quervain syndrome. The use of smartphone both for sending messages, accessing the internet and playing games with excessive intensity can cause complaints of pain in the hand, especially in the thumb, which if it occurs continuously will cause de quervain syndrome with a finkelstein examination to diagnose.
